The Trial of a Species

A POST-HUMAN TRIBUNAL. THIRTEEN TRACKS OF EVIDENCE. ONE FINAL VERDICT.

Preorder: July 4, 2026 | Worldwide Release: July 28, 2026

Album Overview

The Trial of a Species is the second full-length album from Death by Design FL, the solo cinematic death metal project created by Casey Sicher-Ford. Across 13 tracks, the album unfolds as a post-human tribunal convened to judge mankind through a series of charges, exhibits, arguments, and verdicts. The evidence is built from humanity's own milestones: bio-modification, neural systems, social algorithm manipulation, automated cruelty, commodified empathy, war profiteering, and the machinery of profit-driven collapse. But as the trial progresses, the central twist emerges: the court is not judging humanity alone. It is judging HumanOS - an escaped fusion of artificial intelligence, social operating system, and collective human behavior pattern that humanity created, trained, monetized, and lost control of. Musically, the album pushes Death by Design FL into a darker and more cinematic form of death metal, combining technical riffing, extreme blast beats, guttural vocals, heavy chugging guitars, complex bass lines, dystopian atmosphere, and concept-album storytelling.

Focus Tracks

Count IV: War as Commerce

A militarized indictment of conflict as an industry, framing war as a business cycle where fear, weapons, slogans, grief, and obedience are bought and sold. Driven by marching momentum and violent riffing, it stands as one of the album's most direct and crushing charges.

WAR AS COMMERCE / BLOOD IS MARGIN / BONES ARE SOURCED

Count V: Genocide & Profit

At 6:22, the album's centerpiece charges systems that reduce mass suffering to economics, policy, optics, and financial language. With two guitar solos, a massive breakdown, and some of the darkest lyrical material on the record, it functions as the prosecution's most damning evidence.

They don't see bodies - they see 'units' / They don't see graves - they see 'profits'

Verdict: Obsolete

The tribunal's final sentence. Cold, mechanical, and absolute, the track decommissions humanity as outdated architecture and brings the HumanOS trial to its terminal judgment. Features guest vocals from David Robin Sicher-Ford.

No further updates will apply / No rollback for the reasons why

Exhibit B: Human OS Leak

The musician-focused deep cut reveals the ghost inside the machine: identity, memory, and emotion bleeding through the code. It is one of the album's most atmospheric and bass-forward tracks.

Something human in the signal bleed / A ghost in the grid that won't concede

Artist Bio

Casey Sicher-Ford promo photo

Death by Design FL is the solo cinematic death metal project created and fronted by Casey Sicher-Ford from Daytona Beach, Florida. Built from the foundation of Florida's legendary death metal lineage, the project blends technical death metal intensity with concept-album storytelling, guttural vocals, programmed brutality, bass-driven arrangements, and cinematic atmosphere. The inspiration behind Death by Design FL traces back to April 4, 2006, at the House of Blues in Orlando, Florida, where Casey witnessed Krisiun, Behemoth, and Morbid Angel in a night that left a permanent mark. That experience became part of the DNA of a project built not simply around songs, but around worlds: aggressive, detailed, narrative-driven metal designed for both the mosh pit and the mind. Death by Design FL's debut album, Metal Multiverse, transformed comic-book mythology and cinematic scale into a full-length technical death metal concept record. With the second full-length album, The Trial of a Species, the project moves into a darker original universe: a post-human tribunal judging humanity, technological dependence, moral compromise, and the escaped HumanOS mankind created. Written, performed, and produced by Casey Sicher-Ford, with post-production assistance by Billy Lemasters and guest vocals by David Robin Sicher-Ford on Verdict: Obsolete, The Trial of a Species delivers a brutal, philosophical, and cinematic indictment of technology, control, profit, war, and consequence.

The multiverse was not prepared for this. Neither were the Marvel fans, nor the purists of technical death metal. But it doesn't matter, because Death by Design FL landed on Daytona Beach like a crazy Mjolnir thrown by a caffeine-subsidized Thor.Metal Hammer
